UNDERSTANDING DRIVERS
SETTING GOALS | DELIVERING PLANS

About

Peter Gutwein is a proud Tasmanian and former State Premier and Treasurer, who now works with the boards and executive teams of a range of globally leading companies.

He understands what drives and motivates him, how to set goals, lay out plans and maintain the determination to achieve them. He can help you do this too.

His story of how he achieved one of the highest offices in the land and his experiences post politics with some of the world's leading companies tackling climate change, is one that will resonate with your audience because of its simplicity, authenticity, humour and honesty.

From humble beginnings and challenging personal circumstances that saw him leave school at 15, overcome a major speech impediment and a fear of public speaking, his determination held no bounds, driven by a purpose to secure more opportunities than he had growing up, for his family and fellow Tasmanians. When he became Premier he declared he would lead with compassion and conviction – and not forgetting the challenges of his own very modest upbringing, he committed to providing opportunities for all Tasmanians, regardless of circumstance or background.

As Treasurer he put in place a plan to transform Tasmania’s economy, which went from the worst performing to the best performing in the country.

He defied a Prime Minister and acted ahead of the rest of the country on a bold plan to protect Tasmanians from COVID-19, with the state declared one of the safest in the world while maintaining a strong economy.

He achieved ambitious goals for Tasmania to be the renewable energy powerhouse of Australia, with a world leading net zero target. He pursued Tasmania’s long fought dream to have its own AFL team, and reinstated a Tasmanian NBL team for the first time in 25 years.

Peter now advises a number of globally leading companies, including Sea forest, Countrywide Hydrogen, Incat, Migrant Resources and others, which are on the cutting edge of technologies that will assist the world with its transition to cleaner energy and better environmental outcomes.

Above all he understands that balance and wellbeing is the key for underpinning every aspect of your life personally and professionally.

He has run marathons, is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and his most recent fitness achievement was to become one of the fittest 59-year-olds in the country and to set an example for others that being fitter and healthier positively impacts your overall wellbeing.
